‘Health and Physical Education’ will be included in the ‘Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus from 2010’. Students will soon be taught about health hazards and benefits of yoga/games in their classrooms. The National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) has recently approved the syllabus which, will be compulsory for students of class I to X and it will be an optional subject for students of class XI and XII. Moreover, there will be no textbooks for this subject, students will be taught through a planned teachers’ guidebook only.

Further in the meeting they will discuss about the six modules in the subject i.e. nutrition, rural and urban health services, consumer health, health and environment, mental health and human body literacy.

The new subject will be introduced from 2010 in all CBSE schools, public schools and Navodaya Vidyalayas. It will not have any textbooks for the students but only a guidebook for the teachers.
