In a recent development, government of Punjab has given strict orders to principals of medical and nursing colleges to keep strict vigil on ragging. Immediate expulsion must be done if the student is found guilty of harassing the freshers.
In last few years, ragging has taken an ugly face with consistent emergence of new cases of student harassment. The state government has asked the institutions to strictly follow the supreme court guidelines in curbing this menace.
Every medical institute will appoint a medical superintendent to keep a check on ragging. Parents and senior students have already been notified of the new guidelines. New students are advised to immediately report any such incident to the concerned authority, and are assured of keeping their identity a secret.
