Yes, the much awaited Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) 2009 result was announced on 4th May 2009. This is the final result based on the written test held in October-November, 2008 and Personality Test interviews held in March-April, 2009. This year girls have grabbed the top three positions – 30-year-old Shubhra Saxena took the first position followed by Sharandeep Kaur and Kiran Kaushal as second and third in the list.
The topper Shubhra Saxena has completed her B.Tech from the reputed IIT Roorkee. This was her second attempt and she attributes her achievement to her parents and husband, who had been very encouraging and supportive throughout the long-run exam process. Mr.Varinder Kumar Sharma has topped amongst the male candidates. Overall he has secured 4th position and this was his very first attempt. Moreover the top 25 candidates include 10 females and 15 males.
According to UPSC, 3, 18,843 candidates applied for this examination out of which 1, 67,035 candidates appeared for the Preliminary examination and 11,849 candidates qualified for the Main exam held in October-November, 2008. This time 791 candidates have been selected for the appointment that includes 364 candidates from General (Gen) category, 236 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 130 from Scheduled Castes (SC) and 61 from Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
