Delhi University’s second cut-off list unlikely for popular courses
Merely within two days of admission process in the country’s most preferred university-the Delhi University, the seats in the popular courses have filled and several colleges are not anticipating a second cut-off list for certain courses.
In one of the most famous college for girls-Miranda House around 430 admissions were made against a total of 1,000 seats.
“Seats in Political Science and History (Honours) are filling up fast and there is a possibility that these courses might not have a second cut-off list. We still have one more day of admissions left on the basis of the first list, ”Miranda House principal Pratibha Jolly said. Among science courses, Botany (Honours) and Zoology (Honours) have also seen a good response, she said.
The likeliness of Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) issuing a second cut-off list for the most sought after course-Economics Honours is quiet low as the college has already over-admitted students for the course. Asserting this, P.C. Jain, Principal, SRCC stated that the college has already admitted 129 students for 123 seats in Economics. The college shall see the scope of admitting the students under the OBC quota.
Even though the admission process at St. Stephen’s College is different from other colleges, the college authorities maintained that there will not be a second cut-off list. Adding to this, Karen Gabriel, media coordinator at St Stephen’s, said that a truncated list of candidates for Economics will be released because of the changes in the seats and that the college had announces the list of candidates admitted provisionally to Economics.
Besides these colleges, almost half of the seats at Indraprastha College for Women have been filled in the first two days of admission. Seats in courses such as B.Com (H) and English (H) have been taken. M M Yogi, Public Information Officer at IP College, stated that it is likely that a second cut-off list for English and B.Com may not be issued as most of the admissions in these courses have been completed.
Jesus and Mary College too will not release a second cut-off list for Economics and Psychology.
Minoti Chatterjee, Principal of Kamla Nehru College situated in Delhi University’s South Campus confirmed that almost two-thirds of the seats in Psychology, English and Journalism have been filled and the that the college does not expect a second list in these courses.
