CAT Exam’s New Format: Longer, More Flexible

The Common Entrance Exam, popularized as CAT is one of the most sought after entrance exams for IIMs and top business schools (B-Schools) in the country.

As per the experts, with the amendments made in the CAT exam format, the exam shall be longer and more flexible as well. Also, the new format shall be all the more challenging for the candidates, however at the same time it will allow them to score better.

The forthcoming scheduled CAT examinations to be held on November 16 & 22 shall witness the following four major changes in its pattern viz.:

  • The duration of the exam has been increased from 140 minutes to 170 minutes this year.
  • The number of questions in each section has been increased from 30 to 50.
  • The third major change in the pattern is the flexibility of switching to other sections during the exam.
  • Students were allowed to take up a tutorial before the examination which has been removed in this year’s pattern.

Besides this, the Tata Consultancy Services shall be the examination organizing Agency for the next five years.
