CBSE Board Affiliation Overview
CBSE or Central Board of Secondary Education is a premier education institution in India. It is a self-financing institution that functions under the supervision of Secretary of Education, Government of India. The school board is primarily responsible for conduction secondary and senior secondary school examinations. Until last year about 9000 schools were affiliated to the board.

CBSE is not only popular in India, but many other countries. As many as 141 schools outside India and in 21 countries were affiliated to the board on March end last year. The board was founded in 1912 and was reconstituted as CBSE in 1952.

CBSE board affiliation is considered to be of great importance following the popularity of objectives the board fulfils. As the board conducts the secondary and senior secondary school examination, its certification is valid and approved throughout the world.

Other Functions of CBSE
CBSE conducts a lot of programmes, including workshops, orientation programmes, seminars, etc. One of the areas of focus of the board is to innovate and develop better learning cum teaching methodologies. The board also keeps on evaluating the existing practices in examinations and instructions.

Procedure for CBSE Board Affiliation
CBSE issues a document by the name Byelaws, which mentions all rules and regulations that must be followed by the institution that seeks the affiliation. An application is forwarded to the board with documents as have been declared necessary, and an affiliation fee is deposited as demand draft in favour of the Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education Delhi.

The documents include NOC or recommendation letter from State Government/Union territory or Embassy in case the school is located outside India, copy of the registration letter of the trust or society, land certificate from concerned authority, and affidavit of non-proprietary character of society.

Types of Affiliations
There are three types of affiliations awarded by the CBSE – Approval for Middle Class Syllabus, Upgradation to Secondary Level and Upgradation to Senior Secondary Level. The affiliation fee varies according to the type of school (private, government or school located in other country) and the type of affiliation.
