Due to the increasing demand for qualified nurses, it is the right time to invest in the growing healthcare sector. The initial investment could be very high and it also a time-consuming process. But the end results are quite satisfactory. You can earn impressive returns on your investment and also contribute to the society. So, here are the right steps on how to set up your own nursing college.

Arranging Funds

In order to start a nursing school, the initial cost could be big. It includes expenses related to land, facilities, accreditation, equipment and staff salaries. Therefore, you should be ready with the capital to be invested.

Form a Society/Trust

The next step is to form a society that will act as the governing body. The Society should be registered under the Society Registration Act. The formation of a Society will reflect the non-profit motive of your nursing college.

Obtain No Objection/ Essentiality Certificate

After completing the legal formalities, you will have to acquire No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Department of Education (DoE) of the concerned State Government. And you need to make sure that you get the NOC renewed every year from the DoE.

Acquire Land

Once you have obtained the sanction from the DoE, you have to search for the location and land for the establishment of your nursing college. Most often, the DoE forwards the request for acquisition of land to the concerned land owning authorities of the state.

Building and Infrastructure

After attaining the sanction from the land owning authority, you may start the construction of the college infrastructure. The infrastructure should be in accordance with the requirements of the nursing college.

Equipment and Supplies

Furthermore, you will have to purchase beds, drips and syringes for your nursing college. In addition to this, you will need all the supplies that a nurse may use in a hospital, since you will be teaching the future nurses how to use these equipment.

Development of the Curriculum

The next step is to develop a curriculum to be followed. There are many things to be considered while developing the nursing programme. For this, you will need to decide the syllabus to be followed and books to be referred for various courses offered at your college. You will also have to decide the course(s) your nursing college will offer such as ANM, GNM, B.Sc. (nursing) etc.

Seek Accreditation

The next step is to apply for the accreditation of your nursing college. In India, the Indian Nursing Council (INC) establishes uniform standards of training for nurses, midwives and health visitors. You must adhere to the norms and guidelines laid down by the INC.

Hiring of Staff

A nursing college should have highly qualified teachers and support staff members. All the employees should be qualified and experienced in accordance with the requirements of the positions available in the nursing school.

Advertise your Nursing College

The last step is to promote your nursing college. For that, you have to plan out an effective marketing plan such as advertisements on T.V., radio and newspapers, hoardings and banners, etc.

The aforesaid steps will guide you to open your own nursing college with ease and comfort.
